Bowls…
Whilst the sports club was founded in 1904, the Lawn Bowls section was not founded until 1947. It boasts a six rink grass green reputed to be one of the best in Ireland.

Lawn bowls is a competitive sport that dates from the 12th Century. It is an enjoyable team or singles sport and a great way of enjoying the company of others. Many of our members played other sports such as gaelic football; golf; hurling; rugby, soccer or tennis before taking up bowls and our members are aged from their early twenties to late eighties.

The Gents section has one of the most successful records in the Bowling League of Ireland with numerous successes in Cups and Leagues at all levels. In addition Club members have represented the Club at both International and Association level. The Ladies section was founded in 1985 and quickly made their mark with league and cup successes and lady members also taking representative honours.
It’s an enjoyable way of keeping active in a competitive yet friendly environment. And, of course, you can enjoy a drink in the bar afterwards in good company.

Teams & Play Days:

The Bowls season begins in April and finishes in September. The Club currently runs 6 gents league teams; the top 3 playing on Saturdays and 2 playing on Monday evenings. The Veterans team play on Thursday mornings. The ladies offer 3 teams; 2 playing on Wednesday afternoons and another playing on Tuesday evenings.
